ATTENTION: Our IRS certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance(VITA) Site is closed this season. Please be aware there are options for free tax assistance through the IRS’s Free File Program as well as other sites in North Carolina that are still open for assistance. IF YOU WISH, YOU MAY PREPARE YOUR RETURN YOURSELF FROM HOME AT HTTP://WWW.MYFREETAXES.COM/. YOUR INCOME MUST BE BELOW $57,000. IF YOU RUN INTO QUESTIONS, YOU MAY CONTACT SUPPORT AT 1.855.MY.TX.HELP.
We ask that you please DO NOT call the law school.
If you have questions, please contact Zachary Osborne at zosborne@live.unc.edu.

Statement of Purpose

The VITA chapter of the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law seeks to provide free income tax assistance to low and middle-income taxpayers in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, North Carolina.

Our membership is open to all faculty and students who wish to participate. To prepare tax returns, members are required to pass the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) certification tests. Students may sign up for volunteering on My Carolina Law

Clinic Questions

If you cannot sign up for a clinic this is likely due to the clinic being full. If there are no options listed on that particular date it is because we do not have volunteers for that date. Please do not call the law school or email asking why you cannot sign up for a clinic as we will not respond. Please continue to check the calendar for availability.
