Billy was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before coming to Carolina, Billy attended Davidson College as a collegiate wrestler, and received a degree in Religious Studies. Following graduation, he hopes to pursue a career as a litigator. In Billy’s free time, he loves to watch sports, especially Carolina Panthers football and NY Mets baseball. After graduation, Billy is clerking on the North Carolina Business Court in Greensboro.   


Outside of law school, Avery enjoys baking, hiking, and running. Avery has served as the President of Women in Law, Vice President of Law Students Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, Secretary of Trial Team, and is currently a member of Law Review. Avery knew she wanted to join trial team as soon as she learned about it on campus. As a former collegiate basketball player, Avery has always been a part of a team, and knew Trial Team would allow her to continue to be a team member. Avery loves that trial team gives her the opportunity to try a new legal skill set. After graduation, Avery will join Ward & Smith’s employment practice in Wilmington, NC.

Gabby is from Wilmington, NC and studied Political Science at Ole Miss (Hotty Toddy!). In addition to serving as Chief of Staff for Trial Team, Gabby is also the Managing Editor for the Journal of Law and Technology (where a piece she wrote on TikTok was published!). Previously, Gabby served as Treasurer for Trial Team, President of the Teen Court Assistance Program, and has been involved in other various organizations including Women in Law, Barrister's Ball Planning Committee, the Federalist Society and Carolina Law Ambassadors. Outside of law school, Gabby loves going out on the boat, watching Ole Miss football, traveling, and spending time with her four-year-old Boykin Spaniel mix, Maggie, and her American Cocker Spaniel puppy, Lottie.  After graduation Gabby is clerking on the North Carolina Business Court in Raleigh. 

“I joined trial team because I want to be a trial lawyer and trial team is the only organization at the law school that allows you to get some hands-on skills doing just that!”   


Brandon spent two years after undergrad living in DC (and he would highly recommend living there!) working for the Air Force. In 2018 Brandon was accepted into a JAG transition program and found himself studying law at UNC to be an Air Force JAG upon graduation. 

“The Trial Team appealed to me as a great opportunity for practical experience while getting to join a fun and social organization--I don't know of any other organization that does both!”    


Jericho graduated from UNC with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Political Science in 2019. Jericho is also a member of the Federalist Society, the Carolina Law First-Gen Professionals program, and the Carolina Public Interest Law Organization at UNC Law. Jericho plans on spending my law career as a litigator, which is what made him want to join the Trial Team!   


Trey is 2L and is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina. Trey graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Spanish. Trey also received a Master’s degree in Marketing from Vanderbilt’s business school. Trey joined the Trial Team because he was attracted to the opportunity it provides to compete, develop, have fun, and contribute to its success. Trey is interested in litigation, but is also attracted to aspects of transactional work in corporate law. He hopes to work in private practice upon graduation.     


Gabrielle was born and raised in Pembroke, North Carolina. Gabrielle am a proud double Tar Heel. While attending UNC Chapel Hill for undergrad, Gabrielle double majored in Political Science and American Indian and Indigenous Studies with a minor in Social and Economic Justice. When Gabrielle is not studying, she enjoys spending time with her cat, Hamilton and cooking/baking for friends. While Gabrielle still figuring out what sort of law she would like to practice after graduation, she has long term goals of entering state and local politics.   


Nathan came to UNC Law after getting a Master’s degree in Political Science with a focus in Congress and Institutions from UNC – Chapel Hill. Although Nathan had never tried out for any sort of mock trial team before, he knew he was interested in pursuing a career in the courtroom post-graduation and wanted to get some practical experience while in law school. After Nathan graduates, he hopes to get a clerkship before working in private practice. In his spare time, Nathan likes to read, watch a variety of college sports (particularly UGA football), and hang out with his wife, Grace, and his dog, Sasha.   

CONNOR SCHARFF   Connor came to law school as an active duty Army Officer through the Funded Legal Education Program (FLEP). Following his completion of UNC Law, he will return to serve as a Judge Advocate. On the side Connor loves running, reading, and volunteering. 

“I made it a goal to pursue the Trial Team because I have a passion for litigating and arguing in a courtroom. I felt that this organization would help me in becoming a better attorney and prepare me for life as a future attorney in the U.S. Army.”   


Katarina is originally from Upstate New York and went to the University of Connecticut for my undergraduate degree, where she majored in Marketing and International Relations. Katarina likes to spend her free time dog-sitting, hiking, or trying new things! She is also a Lexis    Representative, a Themis Representative, and a Forum Editor on   North Carolina Law Review. After her 2L year, Katarina worked for Michael Best & Friedrich where she will return after graduation. Katarina is passionate about labor & employment, trademark, and copyright law. She is also a self-proclaimed expert on all things Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.   



Asha is originally from Fort Mill, South Carolina and graduated from George Washington University in 2018 with a degree in Political Science. Asha is unsure of what practice area of the law she would like to specialize in after graduation, but is very interested in white collar litigation. In addition to being on the Broun National Trial Team, Asha is also Treasurer of the Student Bar Association and Vice President of the Black Law Students Association. Outside of law school, Asha enjoys roller-skating, baking, hanging with friends, and watching mindless hours of reality television. 

 “I wanted to join the trial team to improve upon my communication skills and also join this group of fun, hardworking people!”  


Chris graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2016 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and a minor in military science. Before coming to UNC Law, Chris served as an active duty Army Officer at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In addition to the Broun National Trial Team, he is a member of Carolina Health Law Organization, Carolina Law First-Generation Professionals, serves on the   Graduate and Professional School Attorney General's Staff as Counsel, and is a Staff Member on the   North Carolina Journal of Law & Technology. In his free time, Chris enjoys reading and attempting to take his stubborn English bulldog on walks with his wife.   


Kayla graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Political Science and Sociology. She is an Oxford, North Carolina native and is a proud first-generation law student. Aside from being a member on the Broun National Trial Team, she is involved in various organizations such as the Black Law Students Association.   Kayla is interested in litigation and is attracted to working with government agencies. Outside of law school, she loves traveling, working out, eating seafood, collecting shoes, and spending time with family and friends. 


Luke was born and raised in Wilson, North Carolina.   Luke is an extremely proud double Tar Heel, where he graduated with an Economics degree.   After graduation, Luke hopes to pursue a career in litigation, which is the reason he wanted to join trial team! Outside of law school, Luke likes to play golf and watch Carolina basketball and football and is waiting for the day that Mack Brown takes Carolina football to the College Football Playoff.     


Maddy came to Carolina after studying political science and psychology at Meredith College. As a former Meredith athlete, Maddy knew she would need to fill the void left by having teammates her whole life—enter trial team! When she is not studying (or at least pretending to), Maddy loves to play basketball and soccer, try new food, and watch Carolina Hurricanes hockey! 

“Attending law school has been a life-long dream, and I cannot wait to get into a courtroom.” 


Matthew DeWitte is originally from Elmhurst, Illinois. Matthew graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science, double majoring in Agricultural and Applied Economics and Legal Studies. Matthew loves all things Chicago sports, designer fashion, and space travel.    Matthew became interested in the Trial Team after competing in the 1L Kilpatrick Competition and is excited to compete on the national level. Matthew is interested in practicing law within the corporate governance and securities areas and hopes to be involved with litigation. 


Meredith is from High Point, NC. She is a proud double Tar Heel! Meredith graduated with a B.S.B.A. from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School in 2020. When she is not studying, Meredith enjoys swing dancing, playing piano, watching UNC sports, and searching for the best queso and margs in Chapel Hill with her friends. In addition to being Secretary on Trial Team, Meredith is the Vice President of Communications for the Federalist Society and is a Staff Member on the North Carolina Law Review. Following graduation, Meredith intends to pursue a career as a litigator.   


Olivia came to law school after studying reporting journalism and environmental science at UNC Chapel Hill. Olivia has long dreamt of a career in   criminal defense. When Olivia is not highlighting in a textbook, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and playing with her rescue puppy, Gordon.   I joined the trial team because I hoped to gain experience in a court room setting, I love competition, and I wanted to join   such a fun group of people!”   

WILL MEEKINS   Will is from Shelby, NC but now lives in Cary with his wife, three children, and two dogs. Will graduated from the United States Military Academy with a B.S. in American Legal Studies and has a M.A. from the University of Louisville in Higher Education Administration. Prior to law school, Will served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army for seven years. Will sought out the BNTT in hopes of gaining practical experience that will prepare him to advocate for members of his community after law school.   


Wynter is a proud double Tarheel- she graduated from UNC undergrad in 2016 where she majored in   Public Policy and Political Science. In the four years between undergrad and UNC Law, Wynter spent time traveling and working in National Parks in Wyoming and Colorado. When she is not studying for law school, Wynter enjoys making pottery, reading sci-fi, and caring for her growing number of plants. After graduating Wynter hopes to pursue a career as a public defender or in environmental law.
