Student Organizations

Student Organization Recognition: Deadline September 23, 2015

SBA is thrilled to announce the new way to recognize outstanding student organizations.

The Student Bar Association is sponsoring a monthly competition to recognize outstanding student organizations at Carolina Law. The Student Organization of the Month Award is aimed at recognizing the hard work and contributions of student organizations at the law school. Whether through exceptional pro bono projects, interesting events, successful meetings, increased membership, or any other unique programming; these organizations are making a meaningful difference in the Carolina community. All you have to do to nominate a student organization for this award is write a short paragraph of no more than 500 words on why the organization should win. The winning organization will be recognized on our Student Bar Association website and social media outlets, as well as receive bulletin board space on the SBA board by the student lockers to advertise about their organization. The application can be found online at http://studentorgs.law.unc.edu/sba/studentorgs/. The deadline for submitting for the October recognition is 12:00 p.m. on September 23.

Student Organization Funding Opportunities

Student Bar Association

The SBA will also fund groups who clean the dining area. Groups can sign up on the Google Doc available at Clean Up Sign Up. Sign-ups are first come first serve, and groups will receive $25 for each cleaning. Notify Meghan Boyd at megboyd@live.unc.edu.

Also,

Student organizations that have unexpected costs arise during the semester can request emergency funds from the SBA by filling out the Emergency Budget Request Form available from SBA's Budget Forms. You must send the completed form and a copy of your SAFO general ledger to SBA Treasurer Meghan Boyd (megboyd@live.unc.edu) at least 48 hours in advance of a meeting of the SBA Board of Governors for your request to be considered.

SBA also offers seed money, which is essentially a no-interest loan from the SBA that can be allocated to help group fundraising efforts. Seed money received from the SBA must be repaid within a designated period. The application process for seed money is the same as the process for emergency funding requests.
