Student Bar Association Newsletter

Student Bar Association Newsletter: Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Welcome

We hope everyone is having a good semester. SBA wanted to let you know of a special event we are honored to sponsor and hope you will get involved.

The Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education is being held on Saturday November 15. As mentioned, SBA is one of the event sponsors, and will have team at the event.  To get involved or for more information, please visit http://educationforeve.com/.

SBA will also have sign-up forms available at our Information Table in the Rotunda every Wednesday.

Student Organizations

Thank you to all the student organizations who attended the student organization budget hearing on September 30.

Final budget decisions are posted online at: http://studentorgs.law.unc.edu/sba/budget/priorbudget/.

T-Lot Shuttle

SBA is thrilled to announce the new T-Lot parking lot shuttle!

With the help of Dean Boger and the Student Services Office, SBA was able to help launch this new shuttle which is available NOW.

The shuttle runs Monday - Thursday from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. The shuttle driver is stationed in the Rotunda and will transport students to the T-Lot parking area on a first come - first served basis. If the shuttle driver is on a run, please wait for him near the Law School Shuttle sign and he will drive you to the T-Lot when he returns.

The only dates the Law School Shuttle will not run this semester are: Thursday, October 16 (Fall Break); Wednesday, November 26 and Thursday, November 27 (Thanksgiving Break). The last day for the fall Law School Shuttle will be Thursday, December 11.

We hope that this schedule will allow students who leave the law school after dark to feel more safe when traveling to the T-Lot, not to mention making the T-Lot a more convenient place to park!

Upcoming Public Service Events

Join the Public Interest Working Group
Tues. 10/14, 12pm, Room 4082

Are you interested in public interest events at the law school? Do you want to make your voice heard and be an advocate for public interest programming? With the support of Dean Novinsky and the Office of Public Service Programs and SBA, we are forming a Public Interest Working Group which will help develop and coordinate public interest programming throughout the year. This group will meet once or twice a month to brainstorm ideas and help Dean Novinsky organize and plan public interest activities (from social events to enrichment activities). This group will also act as an umbrella group to help coordinate the planning of events by public interest oriented student organizations.

We will be holding an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 14th at noon in room 4082. If you have any questions prior to this meeting, or if you would like to participate but will be unable to attend, please contact Cory Haller (coryhaller@unc.edu).

Law School Annual Food Drive
Beginning October 20 and commencing on October 31, the SBA Public Service Committee will be organizing the school-wide food drive to help support the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Food donations are essential in meeting the needs of those who suffer from hunger in our 34-county service territory. Cash donations will also be accepted. Please check out the UNC School of Law Calendar as we get closer for more details. There will be a competition among the three law school classes, as well as a competition between the three 1L colleges!

We appreciate your support in advance! For more information or to help planning this event, please email Sonal Raja (sraja17@gmail.com) or Vivian Intermont (vdintermont@gmail.com).
