Student Organization Funding Opportunities

Please read below for funding opportunities for student organizations:

Student Bar Association

Student organizations who have unexpected costs arise during the semester can request emergency funds from the SBA by filling out the Emergency Budget Request Form form available at You must send the completed form and a copy of your SAFO general ledger to at least 48 hours in advance of a meeting of the SBA Board of Governors for your request to be considered. We also have seed money available. Seed money is a no-interest loan from the SBA that can be allocated to help group fundraising efforts. Seed money received from the SBA must be repaid by September 30, 2012. The application process for seed money is the same as the process for emergency funding requests.

The SBA will also fund groups who clean the refrigerators in the Snack Shack. Groups can sign up on the sheet posted on the SBA Bulletin Board outside of the student organization suite. Sign ups are first come first serve, but please do not sign up more than once per semester. Groups will receive $30 for each cleaning.

Student Activity Fee Committee

The Student Activity Fee Committee was created for the 2008-2009 school year to allocate funds received from a new Student Activity Fee. The Committee has approximately $20,000 for the year, or $10,000 each semester, to allocate to students and student groups. To apply for funding please fill out the Student Activity Fee Request form available at

Attention Class of 2014

Are you looking for a way to give back to the community through volunteer work that will be both rewarding and fun? If so, UNC's annual "Heels on the Street" community service event is right up your alley. Through the event, we will volunteer at local schools, community centers, and homeless shelters. However, the event cannot take place without your support. If enough 1Ls indicate interest, we can make this event a reality. If interested, please email your class president, Ryan Eletto, at He is looking forward to your responses!

Calling all [at least mildly] artistic 1Ls!

The Class of 2014 needs a design for its class shirt, which we will proudly wear for the rest of our time in law school. We are soliciting responses from you all, and the best design we receive will be chosen. If you are particularly proficient in Photoshop or graphic design, please do us all a favor and make something cool for us all to enjoy! The creator of the winning entry will be recognized in the subsequent issue of this newsletter or on the Class of 2014 Facebook group. Please email your entries to your 1L SBA representative, John Michael Durnovich, at
