Welcome!
The UNC Law Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) is a student organization designed to provide students, faculty, and staff with the opportunity to learn about the growing field of animal law and to advocate for animal interests in a legal setting. We seek to promote awareness—among both members and nonmembers—of current legal issues involving animals and to engage in these issues through various events.
Animal Law Symposium 2013
The UNC Law Student Animal Legal Defense Fund is hosting their second annual Animal Law Symposium on Saturday, March 23, 2013. The symposium will have speakers who are experts in various aspects of animal law in the state of North Carolina. We will divide those speakers into 3 separate panels organized by topic. The topics this year include: equine law, Wake County's Trap, Neuter, and Return Ordinance, and North Carolina puppy mill legislation. The hope is to encourage members of the community to engage in the issues surrounding animal law, and to spread awareness about the current status of animal law locally and nationally. Register online!
Animal Law Symposium 2012
Our first-ever Animal Law Symposium was held at the law school on Saturday, March 17, 2012. It was a great success and we look forward to our next one. More information about the event, speakers, audio recordings, and local press.
Submit Vegetarian/Vegan Recipes for our Blog!
Send us your favorite vegetarian or vegan recipes for our blog and future cookbook! We'll need your name, photo of the dish, list of ingredients, preparation instructions, and applicable links (if you adapted it from another recipe). See our blog for recipe examples. We're assuming most of our readers are from the Triangle area, so let us know where you bought your ingredients, especially if they might be unfamiliar to a newbie vegetarian or veg-curious.
Food "themes" we're especially interested in:
- Quick breakfast, lunch, and dinners for the on-the-go law student
- Holiday-themed (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, etc.)
- Vegetarian/Vegan take on North Carolina / Southern cuisine
- Recipes using meat substitutes and "less familiar" vegetarian ingredients (tofu, tempeh, seitan, couscous, quinoa, etc.)
- Ethnic food (Indian, Greek, Mexian, Korean, Chinese, etc.)
Email your recipe to Elizabeth Choi.
