Statement of Purpose

The Lambda Law Students Association seeks to educate the Carolina Law community about the legal, political, and social issues facing the LGBTQIA (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and ally) community. Lambda has three essential functions:

  1. Host social gatherings to build and strengthen the LGBTQIA community, both within UNC Law and within North Carolina;
  2. Provide educational resources about current events and legal developments pertaining to the LGBTQIA community; and
  3. Connect LGBTQIA students with employers and firms interested in improving diversity of perspective and workforce.


Lambda is open to any and all members of the larger UNC community who are interested in LGBTQIA legal, political, and social issues. We particularly encourage supportive allies to attend meetings and events!

Lambda Activities

Lambda participates in many events throughout the year, both at UNC Law and in the external community. We welcome ideas for events from new and prospective students. Below are examples of our activities from previous years:

  • Panels with professors to discuss DOMA, same-sex marriage, and employment nondiscrimination
  • NC Pride
  • LGBTQIA Bar Revue
  • Fundraiser with Kenan-Flagler Pride at the Bar in Durham
  • Joint socials with other UNC graduate program LGBTQIA groups
  • UNC Ally Week
  • Pro bono activities
