Center for Global Initiatives Events

Carolina Global Photography Competition

When: Submission Period: July 19 - September 30
What: The competition is open to all students, faculty, alumni, and staff of UNC-Chapel Hill. Photos may represent any world region and there is no restriction on the time period in which the photography. For more information visit the CGI website at Carolina Global Photography Competition

Women in International Law Networking Breakfast

What: This event will feature accomplished professionals in various practices of international law discussing their career paths and offering professional advice and insights for women interested in pursuing or changing careers in international law. The panel presentations will be followed by a Q&A session along with time for networking.

The Australia-China Investment Relationship Conference

When: Monday, July 30 - Tuesday, July 31
Where: University of Canberra, Australia
What: This conference provides a unique opportunity to gain a fuller understanding of vital aspects of the investment relationship between Australia and China in a period of uncertainty and change. Australian experts and experts from a leading Beijing University the China University of Political Science and Law will discuss current issues and issues for the future. Attendees will be able to discuss informally the critical issues of interest to them with the Australian and Chinese experts. The major sponsor of this conference is the international law firm King & Wood Mallesons. Co-sponsors are the American Society of International Law and the Australian APEC Study Centre at RMIT University.

American Society of International Law Midyear Meeting

When: Friday, October 19 - Sunday, October 21
Where: Atlanta, GA and Athens, GA
What: The Midyear Meeting will include programs at the headquarters of the Coca-Cola Company in downtown Atlanta on October 19 and at ASIL Academic Partner University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, October 19-21.

The Midyear Meeting will kick off with a career and mentoring fair, followed by a panel discussion by leading practitioners and scholars on the latest developments in the field of international arbitration and an evening reception.

Programs at the University Georgia School of Law will include a panel discussion on the future of scholarship, October 19, and ASIL leadership meetings, a keynote address, and the Research Forum, October 20-21.

The Research Forum will provide a setting for the presentation and focused discussion of scholarly works-in-progress. The Midyear Meeting and Research Forum will close with the launch of ASIL-Southeast, a pilot project designed to enhance the Society's regional presence by bringing together southeastern academics, members of the NGO community, and private and public sector practitioners of international law.
