Riverbend Coal Ash Ponds

Organization: Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, Inc.

Location: flexible

Description: Obtain and review files relating to Riverbend Coal Ash ponds on the Catawba River with the goal of obtaining information about all current and former ash ponds, discharge information, groundwater contamination, dam inspections and related issues. Prepare article for use in newsletter or website. If time permits, write research memo on basis for state and/or riverkeeper to compel cleanup of inactive ash ponds.

Research regarding Marshall Steam Station Coal Ash Ponds

Organization: Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, Inc.

Location: flexible

Description: Obtain and review documents relating to coal ash ponds and ash landfill at Marshall Steam Station on Lake Norman. Identify problems (such as groundwater contamination, lack of liner, NOVs, exceedances, etc.) and research law that might be used to compel cleanup, dam upgrades, liners, etc.

CRWSPO Proposed reservoir and IBT

Organization: Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, Inc.

Description: The Catawba River Water Supply Project (CRWSP) is proposing to build a new reservoir that would supply water to Union County, NC and Lancaster, SC, including a proposed 25 MGD inter-basin transfer from the Catawba River to the Yadkin River. Assistance is needed reviewing public records about the project and researching the legal issues relating to the project.

Allen Steam Station Coal Ash Ponds

Description: The Allen Steam Station is a coal-fired power plan located on Lake Wylie near Charlotte, NC. The project is to obtain and review documents relating to coal ash ponds and ash landfill at Allen Steam Station, identify problems (such as groundwater contamination, lack of liner, NOVs, exceedances, etc.) and research law that might be used to compel cleanup, dam upgrades, liners, etc.
