ELP Officers Meeting Minutes

January 23, 2007

Recycling

  • A new sign-up sheet will circulate at the general meeting next week.
  • We want to attempt to have two people on each bin in order to lighten the load and make sure the work gets done.
  • Until then, if you see a bin full, empty it.

Networking Dinner:

  • Where: Boardroom or Rumpus Room.  (Candace will check the boardroom policy and get the room availability for the possible dates.)
  • Possible Dates:  Wednesday Feb. 28th, Monday March 5th, Wednesday March 7th, Monday March 21st.  We will ask members at general meeting which date is best.
  • Food: We want to cater the event.
  • Funding: Brian will look at GPSF funding.  Melissa Pulliam is our law school representative.  SBA emergency funds.
  • Time: around 6:30 since we want to allow time after work for people to arrive.
  • Who: contacts with a mix of firms, non-profits, govt?
  • Avery mentioned the possibility of a follow-up letter of confirmation on the university letterhead instead of formal invitations.  (low cost)

National Environmental Law Society

  • Candace will look at website and check out requirements.  She will present the idea at the general meeting and we can see what interest there is in the group.
  • This is a good networking opportunity-national conference.  There is probably a job fair and would also set us up for future growth.  We would also be able to participate in events nationally.

Enviro Panel:

  • Erin is the point person on this.
  • Monday February 15th at noon in room 4085.  They estimate 80 people in attendance.  There is no RSVP required.
  • ELP is responsible for meeting the food delivery at the front of the law school and taking it the room.  We will organize the food, set up the room.
  • Food ideas: Carolina Dinings Catering, Med Deli, Moes
  • Gifts for panelists: water bottles in law alumni closet.  Bridget estimates cost at around $5.
  • The event has been sent to our listserv.  I will forward to other listservs I am on, including a group for UNC pre-law minority students.  Other ideas- campus environmental and pre-law groups

Symposium:

  • Stacy- the papers are edited and submitted for inclusion in the CLE materials.  We have 9 papers this year.
  • Stacy will hold another meeting for ELP volunteers on Fri January 26th and Thursday February 1st to get skits and props together.
  • An idea was proposed to show An Inconvenient Truth.  However, there is already a showing in place by the Climate Action Group on main campus for various days next week.  We will announce at meeting and Candace will forward to listserv this week.
