Carolina Public Interest Law Organization's annual Auction & Benefit at Top of the Hill on January 29, 2015 from 7 p.m.-11 p.m was a great success! Thanks to all of our generous bidders we were able to raise around $13,000. All of the proceeds from the event go directly to fund UNC law students accepting full-time, unpaid public interest law positions for the summer. The CPILO board would like to thank Dean Novinsky and Dean Kasprzak for all of their help planning the auction; Professor Myers for his annual outstanding job as our auctioneer; all of our volunteers for making the night run smoothly; all of the students who solicited and businesses and individuals who made donations; and all of the students, professors, and alumni who came out to celebrate public interest and bid on our items. It was a truly fun night, and we couldn't have done it without everyone!
The auction featured a live and silent auction, giving students a chance to bid on unique experiences with their professors: from camping trips, dinner at a professor's home, to canoeing, and much more! The event also aimed to support local small businesses which graciously donated many of the auction items. UNC sports memorabilia, vacation homes, shopping parties, wine tastings, art, ski passes and more than a hundred other items and services were up for auction. Carolina Law's very own Dean Myers was the auctioneer and emcee, and there was a cash bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres catered by Top of the Hill. Tickets cost $13 in advance or $15 at the door, and covered admission and the cost of food.
