Mock Trial

Child Action hosts a mock trial with the School of Social Work that allows students from both schools to interact and learn more about custody hearings. Law students will direct and cross examine social work students, and social work students will have a chance to learn more about being an effective witness. The next Mock Trial will be held November 1, 2014.

Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program

Child Action encourages law students to become Guardian ad Litems in counties surrounding the UNC campus. A GAL is a trained community volunteer who is appointed by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children petitioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. GALs spend time visiting with children, working with social workers, and meeting with other providers such as mental health professionals and teachers to make sure that the children are in the best possible environment and that their best interest is being served.
